Training & Development

At Direct Health our Care and Support Workers receive a period of induction training which includes moving and handling, personal care, policies and procedures and is delivered using the Common Induction Standards to ensure that care and support workers are trained to respect the rights, choices and diversity of service users in accordance with their needs.

Induction training is followed by a period of time spend shadowing an experienced care staff which usually lasts a minimum of 9 hours but will last as long as the feedback from service users and staff feel is necessary or until further training has been undertaken and the worker has been signed of as competent.

Each member of staff has their own training programme that begins at the induction stage and continues through courses in basic skills as well as specialist areas such as:

  • Dementia
  • Dignity
  • Incontinence
  • mental health awareness
  • caring for the elderly
  • safeguarding – abuse of vulnerable adults.

The in house Learning & Development team can tailor training specific to needs or access external training should it be necessary. We also have a long track record of working in partnerships with local workforce and training partners, including local authorities and health services, to ensure that we achieve standards and specialisms across the board.
